Dear parent or carers/strong
I wanted to contact you to make sure that you are aware of our plans for the end of this term and the start of the next. In addition, we can probably expect some difficulty with the weather over the next few months and I would like to remind you of the arrangements for dealing with heavy snowfall; if we all know how it will be dealt with in advance, we can work together to ensure that all of the students stay safe.
This term will end for all students at 1.00 pm on Tuesday, 20th December. The Yellow Buses have been requested to arrive at 1.00 pm and students travelling to Oldham will be required to use the public bus service, or make alternative arrangements. Those students entitled to and wishing to take a free lunch that day will be able to obtain a “grab a bag” from the school diner. There will be no hot meal service on the last day of the term.We will re-open for students at 8.20 am on Wednesday, 4th January 2017. This will be Week 2; students should arrive in full uniform with all of their equipment for lessons so that learning can begin immediately by 8.30 am.
Arrangements for adverse weather:
If we close during the day because of heavy snow we will:
- Broadcast this on local radio, place an announcement on the website and communicate with you by text
- Allow students with mobile phones to telephone you
- Explain our reasons for closure to you by letter
- Try to get buses to run earlier
Please note, that if we do have to close early, it will not be possible for students to remain in the Academy in the hope that the weather will improve. You need to make an emergency arrangement, which may mean that they go to the home of a friend or relative until they can safely return to you. Please agree this with your son or daughter so that they will know what to do if there is an enforced closure.
If we are unable to open because of snow overnight we will:
- Broadcast information on radio, update the website and contact you by text.
- Cancel student transport.
- Provide information about re-opening on the web site.
We would ask that you do not ring the switchboard with individual enquiries about
weather related matters, as this will overwhelm our reception staff. Emails:
If we do not hold your current email details, you will not be receiving our weekly newsletter, or other items of important information.
For your chance to be entered into a draw to win £25 worth of shopping vouchers, please ensure we hold your email address and if not, send it to firstname.lastname@example.org together with your child’s name, so it can be attached to the correct student. The draw will be made from all held email addresses on Thursday, 5th January and the winner announced in the Weekly Newsletter on Friday, 6th January.
