SEND PUPIL HELPLINE DURING COVID-19

The SEND Pupil Support Service is now offering a Parent Helpline. The service is for the parents/carers of children with EHCPs, currently not in school. The service will offer support and guidance to parents who have SEND children at home, and who are currently struggling to support, engage and/or manage their SEND needs. The SEND team may be able to suggest strategies to help parents and carers to engage their child with work set by school. The helpline will be available to parents from Monday 30th March 2020, and will operate between the hours of 9am-1pm.

If your child chooses to opt for RE as an option subject in Year 9 lesson contact time is 3 hours per week.

If your child does not choose RE as an option subject they will be taught RE  in a 7-10 week block of 1 hour per week. In these lessons your child will apply their understanding of religion developed at KS3 to consider topical issues such as religious views on war.

As an Option Subject

You do not have to be religious to study this course. You simply need to be interested in ethical questions, current issues and what others think. You need to be willing to think deeply about your own opinions, and the beliefs and responses of different religious people.

Qualifications

We follow the new Edexcel GCSE (9–1) in Religious Studies Specification B. 

Students will study two different religions- Christianity and Islam. Their understanding of each religion will be assessed through two separate 1 hour and 45 minute examination papers at the end of Year 11. 

The current Year 11 are studying the Edexcel: Unit 2 (Religion and Life: Christianity) and Unit 8 (Religion and Society: Christianity and Islam).

Welcome to Languages

Welcome to the curriculum page for Modern Foreign Languages. The curriculum is delivered by teachers using the language immersion model wherever possible, which means that most lessons are focused on practical communication skills. Lessons are delivered in specialist rooms, supported by interactive whiteboards and a range of websites to which we subscribe.  We hold celebrations in school to mark the European Day of Languages and we have regular outside speakers in lessons.

We have schemes of learning in year 11 that are bespoke to the needs of the class and works through the revision and re-teaching of topics that haven’t been retained or that need further development to ensure that target grades are met. We follow a “Diagnose, Therapy and Test (DTT) format which consists of testing pupils to find areas of weakness, providing the therapy through teaching and intervention and then re-testing to ensure they have improved and can apply the skill.

Qualifications

  • In years 10 and 11, some pupils follow the Edexcel course for GCSE ICT. This course is assessed by a 90 minute examination weighting 40% and controlled assessment weighting 60%. 
  • In year 10 and 11, some students study the Level 1 or Level 2 INGOTS course. This course is assessed by the following coursework: Drawing and Planning, Presentation, Audio, Desk Top Publishing, Word and the following external online examination Improving Productivity.
  • We have started a small group of students on the 9-1 Computer Science course in year 10. The Computer Science course is assessed by a 90 minute examination weighting 80% and controlled assessment weighting 20%.
